A Sunday Stroll on a Sutherland Shore [SU]
1 October 2023
Starts: 10:00
Ends: 11:30

A Sunday Walk on a Sutherland Shore

In this 90-minute walk, talk and conversation, UHI historian and keen stroller of sandy shores, Professor David Worthington, will try to convince you that the coast and the beach is vital to understanding Dornoch and that wider ‘herring bone’ pattern of peninsulas and saltwater north and north-east of Inverness that some scholars refer to collectively as the ‘firthlands’. When viewed from the firthside, and when combined with a stroll along this beautiful section of the John O’Groats Trail, the local history of Dornoch can take on a new perspective. Expect to hear contentious claims about how
beaches have histories, and how the past and present can take on a rather different, wonderful or troubling appearance when viewed from the coast.

Meet at Dornoch Beach car park
